This is a RAWtools OG design that Mike and Shane started producing years ago. From “semiautomatic to mattock,” is a classic tag ling for this tool. These are double sided tools with a hoe on one side and a fork on the other. They are made from about 7” of a heavy rifle barrel. The metal head is about 6"-8” and the handle is usually between 14"-18.”  Every barrel gives us a different tool. 

At RAWtools South we’ve tweaked this tool to give it our own Southern style and shine. We like to put small “cheeks” on the sides of the eye hole and stamp the metal with our olive branch maker's mark. Once the tool is forged into shape we run each head through a series of sanding grits on the belt grinder. Then we take them over to the polisher and bring them to a bright shine before we even think about putting a handle on it. This finishing technique shows off the texture and lets each tool reflect the light and dark contrast that is inherent to the tool and the user who holds it.  

We hand make all of our handels from scratch out of local hardwoods and attach them with a wedge, slowly curing two part epoxy to secure the head to the handle. We then lather the whole loving package with RAWtools South secret blend of Blacksmith Budder.™  This tool is expensive; we get that’s a bummer, but this price reflects the amount of time an
